HEIKO STRIBL

Success leaves Clues || Alberto Salazar

In no way do I endorse doping, cheating, or physical or mental abuse. Definitely not to be tolerated. Let’s just see if there is something we can learn from these athletes before they lost their way.

It is hard for me as a recreational runner to fathom this dedication. In your basement. Alone. On a treadmill. A top runner, reduced to slow times in a dark corner where no one sees you. The part I remember best was: When asked about his goal, he simply said, “I’m going to win it.” Since he had never run an ultra, you didn’t give him much of a chance, but he won the race.So what enabled him? To travel to a country he had never been to before enter a race the first time. Beat the local legends, run double the distance you usually run, overcome serious injuries, and win. What needs to be happening in your mind? How do you train in a basement on a treadmill for that. Read any training plan for the comrades. For any marathon, I sincerely doubt that unless you live on the

Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station you don’t need to suffer on a treadmill. His training methods, putting aside charges against Nike Oregon Project Alberto Salazar’s methods to speed: Apart from ‘pure speed’ development and maintenance, Salazar has athletes work on their 800/1500 abilities throughout the year and away from races. “You won’t get burned out [by doing speed work through the year; you will get burned out if you are running all out as fast as you can [frequently]”. Thus these session are controlled fast running, rather than all out efforts. Mo and Galen have been known to do short and fast track work throughout stages of training. Including 15x200m in 28sec, most probably often more at cruising pace. What does the Bible say about forgiving someone who cheated? Or did wrong to others. Scripture is clear that Christians should always be willing to forgive any offense of any magnitude. Ephesians tells us to, “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (4:32
