A working life across
five continents

"Show up. Do the work. Try again when it doesn't work the first time."

— The method that held it all together

You may have more road ahead than you think.

Perhaps you are facing a change you did not choose. Perhaps success no longer means what it once did. Or perhaps you simply sense that the next chapter of your life should be different from the last.

My story crosses five continents, thirty countries, several careers and more than a few wrong turns. I share it because something learnt in a difficult office, an unfamiliar country or on a long road may help you approach your own next step with greater courage and clarity.

A wider view

Growing up in South Africa and working across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas taught me that there is seldom only one way to understand a problem.

Different countries challenge different assumptions. They teach you to listen before deciding, to remain curious when the familiar rules stop working and to begin again without pretending that you already know everything.

These stories may help you see your own circumstances from another angle.

Endurance that matters

My working life has included manufacturing, construction, international business, consultancy and coaching. Running has taken me through twelve marathons in twelve countries, ultra-distance events and a 504-kilometre challenge.

The distances are not the point.

What matters is what they revealed: how to continue when motivation disappears, how to adjust when a plan fails and how to recognise when endurance means changing direction rather than simply pushing harder.

Those lessons belong far beyond running.

Why TRY AGAIN

Life rarely moves neatly from setback to triumph. Mine certainly did not.

Some decisions worked. Others failed completely. A few apparent failures only made sense years later. Together, they became TRY AGAIN: stories about work, faith, responsibility, resilience and the difficult business of getting up without pretending that falling did not hurt.

This is not a formula for success. It is honest company for anyone trying to work out what comes next.

What you will find here

After more than forty-five years of working, running and occasionally learning things later than I should have, I now write, coach and help people approach change differently.

Here you will find books, articles and coaching for people who still have questions, still want to grow and suspect that another worthwhile chapter may remain.

You do not need to have everything worked out before you begin.

Sometimes you only need enough courage for the next honest step.

That's the spine of Try Again

A memoir publishing in February 2027 — twenty-four chapters, each opening with a verse of scripture, beginning with Joshua 1:9 and ending on Isaiah 40:31. It's a book about the ordinary, repeated act of getting back up.
